Online Postage: Can It Increase Your Bottom Line?

Posted in Expedited Shipments and tagged , on

This is one of the first questions a business should ask when considering what type of postage to use. A business that sends expedited shipments or uses UPS freight shipping does not have to worry about postage. However, these shipping methods are quite pricey and in some cases it is enough to simply send a parcel or package with USPS. The USPS is quite efficient and often more affordable than either UPS or FedEx.

Every postage method has its advantages and disadvantages. Paying for postage stamps is actually the cheapest way to go about paying for postage. The main disadvantage is that one has to drive to the post office, stand in a long line and then buy the stamps. Online postage, on the other hand, is a lot simpler. A person does not even need to leave their desk. Not only is the postage printed out but the address label is printed out at the same time.

On the other hand, having the postage done online does have a number of disadvantages. There are hidden costs involved for a company that starts using online postage. Whether these expenses are worth it or not depends on how much shipping is being done, how close the company is to the post office and other factors. A business that uses a postage online method will also need to buy a proper scale and printer.

It is always a good idea to carefully weigh the pros and cons of any shipping method especially when considering expedited shipments or UPS freight shipping. It is in fact impossible to say which method is the best, as a method that is ideal for one company may not be suitable for another. The objective for any company is always to find a postage method that works the best for them and, above all, is reasonably priced.
